Noise, Dust and Odour Impact Assessments for a Proposed Poultry Farm

Duke Ismael

Benbow Environmental has recently prepared the noise, dust and odour impact assessments for the proposed poultry farm to be located in Ingleburn, NSW.  The assessments were conducted in accordance with the “Approved Methods” guidelines and the Industrial Noise Policy prepared by NSW EPA.  The dust and odour impact assessments were prepared using the dispersion modelling program CALPUFF to determine the dust and odour impacts at the nearest potentially affected residences and other receptors within proximity to the farm.  SoundPlan was used as the appropriate noise modelling program for predicting noise impacts at the nearest potentially affected receivers.  As a result of the assessment, it has been determined that although the poultry farmer has taken the proactive approach to increase the vegetation density to act as a potential visual amenity tool and an environmental buffer to potentially reduce odour and dust impacts, it was recommended that temporary barriers be installed along some parts of the site along the boundary.  The farmer was pleased with the outcome, given his discussions with the assessors and the feedback from local council regarding the assessments prepared.
